The switch we built
because we needed it.
A carrier-grade softswitch, least-cost routing engine, multi-currency rating platform and billing system — written from scratch, running 10 million minutes and 50 million messages a month in production, and available for you to license.
The Zephyr Softswitch at a glance
- Deploys in days, not a six-month professional-services engagement
- No per-port licensing — grow your channel count without renegotiating
- Voice and SMS on one rating engine, one invoice, one audit trail
- Multi-tenant and multi-tier from the first line of code, not bolted on later
- Runs on your infrastructure if you want it to — your data never leaves your estate
- Custom modules are engineering work, because we own and maintain the source
Nine modules. One codebase.
Not nine products stitched together with integrations. One platform where a call, a number rental and a text message share the same customer record, the same rating engine and the same invoice.
Routing engine
Least-cost routing with long-prefix matching, per-network breakout, time-of-day plans, carrier groups with weighting, and automatic failover on every route.
Rating & billing
Effective-dated rate plans that never destroy history. Cost and sell currency per rate row. Connection fees, custom increments, wallets, invoicing and statements.
Reseller hierarchy
Wholesale to reseller to sub-reseller to end customer, each with their own markup, branding, domain and portal. Margin visible at every tier.
Contact centre
Skills routing, predictive dialler with pacing and DNC, live wallboards, whisper and barge, agent scoring, and AI voice agents with live assist.
Cloud PBX
Per-tenant SIP domains, extensions, IVR, queues, voicemail, BLF, conferencing and a WebRTC softphone in the browser.
DID management
Inventory, allocation, sub-assignment to tenants, per-number routing and failover, usage and cost per DID, porting workflow.
SMS gateway
SMPP 3.4 binds and REST API, DLR correlation, throughput throttling per tenant, sender-ID governance, GSM-7 and UCS-2 counted correctly.
Recording & compliance
Selective or full recording, per-tenant retention policy, legal hold, tamper detection, consent capture, subject access requests, access audit log.
APIs & portals
REST API, webhooks, and four separate portals — admin, reseller, sub-reseller and tenant — each scoped to what that role should see.
If you're paying licence fees, read this bit
Commercial softswitches — PortaOne, Sansay, Telinta and others — are mature products that work. The trade-off is the commercial model: ongoing fees, capacity usually tied to what you've purchased, and new capability arriving on the vendor's schedule.
| Consideration | Zephyr | Typical licence |
|---|---|---|
| Time to first live call | Days | Months |
| Channel scaling | Included | Per-port fee |
| Custom modules | Built to spec | Roadmap |
| Runs on your infrastructure | Yes | Varies |
| Voice + SMS, one rating engine | Yes | Usually separate |
| Multi-tier reseller billing | Native | Often an add-on |
| Contact centre included | Yes | Separate product |
| Direct access to the engineers | Always | Via partner |
| Support escalation path | Same day | Tiered SLA |
This reflects common commercial softswitch licensing models. Terms vary considerably by vendor and contract — compare against your actual agreement, and ask us to walk through the specifics of yours.
Moving off your current switch
Nobody changes softswitch casually. The risk isn't the new platform — it's the cutover. So we run both in parallel until you're satisfied.
Export & audit
We take your rate plans, customers, trunks and DID inventory out of the incumbent and reconcile every record before anything is loaded.
Build & test
Your instance configured, interconnects established, and test traffic proven against real destinations before a single customer moves.
Parallel run
Both platforms live. You move traffic across at your own pace and compare billing output side by side until the numbers agree.
Cutover
Full switch when you say so, with the old platform kept warm as a fallback. CDR history migrated so reporting continuity isn't broken.
Three ways to run it
Hosted by Zephyr
Our infrastructure, your brand. Nothing to install or maintain.
- Live in days
- Your brand, logo and domain
- We handle updates and uptime
- Priced per tenant or per seat
Co-hosted
A dedicated, isolated instance — still operated and monitored by us.
- Dedicated instance and database
- Your choice of data region
- Custom modules built to spec
- Annual platform fee
Self-managed licence
Deployed on your own servers, under commercial licence.
- Your data centre or cloud
- Data never leaves your estate
- Annual licence, no revenue share
- Training and handover included
Source code remains Zephyr property under all three models. Compare licensing in detail →

We run our own business on it
Zephyr isn't a product we built to sell and don't use. It's the platform our own ICASA-licensed network runs on, carrying real carrier traffic every day. Every bug you would have hit, we hit first.
- 10 million voice minutes and 50 million SMS a month in production
- 99.9% core network uptime target with 24/7 NOC monitoring
- Multiple reseller tiers and tenants live on the same instance today
- Continuously developed — the platform you license is the one we depend on
Platform questions
What is the Zephyr Softswitch built on?
A FreeSWITCH media core with Kamailio at the SIP edge, PostgreSQL for rating and CDR storage, Redis for state, RabbitMQ for queuing and a Jasmin SMPP gateway for messaging. The routing engine, rating engine, billing platform and portals are our own code on top of that foundation. Using proven open components rather than a proprietary black box means the platform is inspectable, debuggable, and not dependent on any one vendor continuing to exist.
How is it licensed?
Three models. Hosted by us under your brand, priced per tenant or per seat. Co-hosted, where you get a dedicated isolated instance that we operate, on an annual platform fee. Or self-managed — an annual commercial licence for deployment on your own infrastructure, with no revenue share. Source code remains Zephyr property under all three.
Can you migrate us from an existing softswitch?
Yes. Migration covers rate plan import, customer and trunk configuration, DID inventory, and CDR history so your reporting stays continuous. We run both platforms in parallel while you move traffic at your own pace and compare billing output. Timeline depends mostly on how cleanly data exports from the incumbent, which varies a lot by vendor.
What happens if we want a feature you don't have?
We scope it and quote a delivery date. Because we wrote and own the source, custom routing logic, bespoke rating rules, extra reports, new portal screens and third-party integrations are all buildable. That's the whole reason the platform exists — we got tired of being told to wait for someone else's roadmap.
What scale does it handle?
The production platform currently carries roughly 10 million voice minutes and 50 million SMS a month across multiple tenants and reseller tiers, with partitioned CDR storage keeping query performance flat as volume grows. Capacity planning for your deployment is done against your expected concurrent channels and CDR volume rather than a generic figure.
Do we get the source code?
No. Source remains Zephyr property under all three deployment models, including self-managed. What you get is a licensed, supported deployment you control operationally — your infrastructure, your data, your configuration — with us maintaining and extending the code. If source escrow is a procurement requirement, raise it early and we'll discuss terms.
