An operator that happens
to build its own software.
Most telecoms companies buy a platform and resell minutes. We built the platform, hold our own licence, and run real carrier traffic across it every day — which means the people selling to you understand what they're selling.
Zephyr in short
- ICASA-licensed electronic communications operator running its own core network
- ~10 million voice minutes and ~50 million SMS carried monthly
- Own softswitch, rating engine and billing platform, written in-house
- Head office in Cape Town, core network in South Africa, terminating A-Z worldwide
- Independently owned — no holding company, no listed parent, no roadmap committee
- Retail, wholesale and white-label served from one platform
We built it because we needed it
Zephyr began as infrastructure for our own operation. Everything in it exists because a real problem made it necessary — carriers renting switches they couldn't extend, wholesalers losing margin in currency gaps, resellers sold white-label that still carried someone else's logo.
- Engineer-led — the people who wrote the code answer the phone
- Carrier-grade from day one, not retrofitted once it mattered
- Multi-tenant from the first line, so reselling was never bolted on
- Still our own production platform — every bug you'd hit, we hit first

About
Who owns Zephyr?
Zephyr is independently owned and operated. We're not part of a listed group or a holding company, which is why decisions take hours rather than quarters.
How big is the team?
Deliberately small. Everyone who answers a support call can open the switch. As we grow we're protecting that rather than adding layers.
How long have you been operating?
We run an ICASA-licensed network carrying roughly 10 million voice minutes and 50 million SMS a month, on a platform we wrote and continue to develop ourselves.
